More Seattle Stuff

So this is my not-so-quick-blog. As I said before I’m in Seattle at the moment and after that I’m heading for Portland. Tomorrow I have a phone interview with an Oregon radio station, KINK-FM and then I’ll be going to an in-studio radio interview at Seattle’s KMPS-FM’s show “Introspective Northwest.” When that’s done I’ll be rushing off to KOMO TV to do a short spot on their Morning News show and when that’s done I’m going to the zoo. You see I have my son with me on this tour. We’re staying with a friend of mine who until yesterday I hadn’t seen in 9 years. You know how there are some people who you can be away from for eons only to get back together with them and feel like no time has past at all? That’s what it’s been like hanging out with Anne these last few days. She has two beautiful children, a 2 year old boy and a 5 year old girl and my son has been having a fantastic time with both of them. In fact he and the girl have been inseparable until about a half hour ago. Unfortunately at that time the two of them got in an argument that lead to the time out of the little girl at which point my son informed me that the two of them had broken up. But I have a feeling that this trial separation will be short lived.

Traveling with a child is always a bit challenging and traveling with a child while you're working is even more difficult. I’m trying to figure out what I can wear tomorrow that will be professional enough for a television interview and comfortable enough for the zoo since I won’t have time to change. And then there’s the fun of the airport. The only time I ever really bemoan the challenges of being a single mother is when I’m attempting air travel with my son. It would be so great if I had another person around to carry his booster seat and watch the luggage while I take him to the bathroom. But I will say that once we’re actually on the plane my child is a great traveler. He doesn’t get overly fussy and he never complains about his ears popping during take-offs and landings. In fact he loves going on planes. It’s the only place he can get free 7-Up and peanuts.

Tomorrow night I’ll be signing at Third Place Books. Doing book signings in a strange city is always a crap shoot. I may get a large crowd or I may get two people. Either way I’m looking forward to it.

More soon….

Just checking in to see how you're doing. Look like you've been on the road a bit. lol Congrats with the success, and just remember that when you get tired, each signing keeps the momentum going on the book. It'll keep paying off.

Thanks for the pep talk Lawrence.

So far things have been going very well. Nonetheless I'm looking forward to sleeping in my own bed.

I always marvel at parents traveling with kids, especially when its just one parent. I can't imagine how they manage. I have a hard enough time with just my stuff, let alone carrying a kid and all their stuff. My hats off to you.

Thanks Mary,

It was a challenge but we all seem to have come out of it in one piece.
