Sorry to have been absent for so long, things have been very hectic lately (in a good way). Some recent developments need to be kept under wraps for a little while longer but there is one event coming up that I’m eager to share with all of you:
I’m going to Italy!!!
That’s right, I’ll be flying to Italy in a week to promote the Italian version of my book. I’ll be speaking at the Woman’s Fiction Festival in Matera (an ancient Roman town) and then my Italian publisher is sending me to Milan for some interviews and signings. One of my closest friends will be traveling with me and if all goes as planned we will drink in the sites while sipping Chianti and eating gelato. And who knows, we may even meet some nice tall dark Italian…um…friends.
Other than that I’ve managed to complete the first three chapters and synopsis of the third Sophie book a few weeks before deadline (yea me!). The second Sophie book (Passion, Betrayal And Killer Highlights) is finished and will be released in May 2006.
As far as the media is concerned, For Me magazine has featured me in their October issue (which you can pick up at Borders) and for you Bay Area gals I’m also featured in Bay Area Parent . Anyway that’s all the news for now but I promise to post again by this Wednesday with a lengthier post.

I went to Italy recently...Had an interesting time.
Hope you have a fabulous time!!!
An interesting time, Mon?
Well now I just have to know...
Darn you are going to be there just before I get there.
Mary--Geez, it seems that Italy is the place to go these days. You're the fourth person who's told me that they're either about to go there or have just returned from there.
Long story short:
I went with my best friend/bride-to-be with a group she was taking (she's a teacher).
We had a lot of good times, a lot of not so good times, and a lot of "are you kidding me?!" times. It's all about the stories, right?
Our first memorable moment happened at SFO, when one of our group members was not allowed to board the plane because her maiden name was on her flight ticket. $400 and thousands of miles later at JFK, everything was resolved and we were off to Germany!
We were so excited (until we got to Germany and her sister Lisa was informed that she would need to fly back to the States because her passport had expired!) Mariel was not about to leave Lisa, so off I went to Italy with everyone else, and Mariel stayed with Lisa while they figured everything out. Eventually, Lisa got a permit to stay in Italy for a few days. (That permit was later stolen from Mariel's purse, along with Mariel's money and passport!). To add insult to injury (literally) Mariel fell down some stairs in Venice and severly bruised her big toe! The girls also got lost in Rome, without money, when our tour director left them at the embassy!
Finally, one of the MOST DRAMATIC moments happened in New Jersey. On our way back, we were told that we'd be flying to JFK, then from JFK to SFO on a direct flight. Well, at JFK, Lufthansa airlines refused to get us on that flight and we were shuttled to New Jersey at 1 AM instead. Our psychotic driver (and I'm not using that term lightly) did not know where he was going and did not know how to follow directions. He took us through dark alleys, stopped to ask a prostitute for directions, got off the bus on numerous occasions to scream. It was a frightening night. Eventually, we got to the Days Inn, where instead of snacks in the vending machines, there was an assortment of condoms.
This is all I remember now...It's all about the memories.
Mon--Have you ever thought about selling that story to MTV's film division? Seriously, it's like a comedy of errors! The only problem is that in fiction it probably wouldn't come across as realistic.
I'm glad you and your friends got back in one piece (albeit somewhat bruised)! Now let's pray that my trip is a little less eventful.
