Well I got my first speeding ticket. Yes, that would be the first ever in my life. That's not to say that I've never been pulled over before (although it has been quite some time) but I was always able to talk my way out of it.
But this time I was pulled over by a female officer and she wasn't interested in my I'm-just-a-cute-sweet-bimbo-so-give-me-a-break act. So now traffic school. I think I'll do it online. According to the DMV their online traffic school has "entertaining animation, sound and imagery -- not just text!"
I have a feeling that the DMV's idea of "entertaining" may be different than mine but c'est la vie. I broke the law so it's probably a bit unrealistic for me to expect the DMV to reward me with a good time.
But now on to some more positive stuff. Those of you who have checked out Obsession, Deceit And Really Dark Chocolate on Amazon and/or barnesandnoble.com have probably noticed that both sites had the synopsis and reader reviews of the wrong book posted on the page. Amazon's fixed the problem which means that now, for the first time, when people buy my book on Amazon they know what they're buying. It also means that readers can post reviews about my book on Amazon and know that the review will show up in the right place.
That's a hint people ; )
Lastly (and this should have been firstly) L'shanah Tovah to all my fellow Jews out there. May this be the year when your greatest dreams come true!

You Can Be Dirty Without Rolling In The Mud
I'm not a prude. I have no problem with casual sex. If there's a guy (or girl as the case may be) who you want to take home for the night and that person is into you as well, have at it. You'll get no judgment from me. I don't even have a problem with sex workers. I'm not really okay with hookers hanging out on the corner, putting themselves in danger and screwing up the neighborhood but if you're stripping, working the XXX circuit or "entertaining" clients in your apartment that's your business. As long as no ones being hurt and everyone knows the score I don't see why I should be bothered by it.
But in LA there are a lot of women who are sleeping with men in hopes that they'll give them that job or part that will help them make it big. This is infinitely worse than prostitution. For one thing, when you prostitute yourself at least you know what you're getting for your work. Rightly or wrongly there's a paycheck waiting for you at the end of that faked orgasm. But if you're sleeping with people to get a job all you're going to get is a vague promise of an opportunity that might be (but probably won't be) available to you down the line. And then word will spread and other men with vague promises will seek you out. There is no pay off here. You're degrading yourself for nothing. I find that gross.
But that's nothing compared to those who will sleep with some guy just because he's famous. It's like these women think the celebs are better than they are and that by screwing one of them the fame will rub off on them. They'll get to feel a little more important and special, if only for the night. News flash ladies, you can't fuck your way to self esteem. The celebs aren't any better than any of us, they're just photographed more and they sure as hell aren't going to allow themselves to be photographed with the random groupie they banged once in a 5 star hotel.
Okay, I'm done with my public service message. Just wanted to vent my disgust a little. Over all my life here in LA is progressing nicely. It's amazing how much you can achieve when you have a little self respect.

Thank You!
Thank you so much for all your suggestions (many of them sent to my via email or on my Myspace blog) and for getting them to me so quickly! I researched every one of your actress suggestions (and your actor picks for Anatoly). So many of them would be perfect for the roles. I've submitted my favorites in a pitch to certain vaguely interested parties so we'll see what happens.
Please keep in mind there is no movie deal at this point. There hasn't even been an option, just talk of one. If it does get optioned and a cast is picked it could still not get made. Anyone familiar with Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series? Evanovich is a 1000 times more successful than I am. Her books have been optioned several times. The last time they pegged Reese Witherspoon to play the role of Stephanie...and then the option was dropped and the movie was never made. Fashionistas (another Red Dress Ink book) was optioned and Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan were both on board and the movie never got made. So while I want all of you to cross your fingers for me I don't want to give you any false assurances.
But I can assure you of this....Sophie is staying in San Francisco. I may write other stand-alone titles (along the lines of So Much For My Happy Ending) that are set in LA but SF will always be my true home and it will always be the literal home of Sophie. The good news is that I'll need to visit SF a lot to do my research and that's a business expense aka tax deduction.
Other than that, things are going well here in sunny LA. We are just coming out of a heat wave where it was 106-108 degrees ever day for over a week. In other words it was kind of like living in a sauna. My son got a heat rash all over his body and I stumbled around addle brained trying not to pass out. In fact my brain was so fried that I actually locked my son and myself out of our apartment and had to call one of those 24 hour lock places. Not one of my finer moments.
Tonight I'm off to a Trina Turk party. It should be fun although I don't own any Trina Turk but hopefully they won't cross me off the guest list if I show up in Vivienne Tam.

Who Should Play Sophie
People have been asking me this since Sex, Murder And A Double Latte was first published but usually those questions came from people who had never worked in the film industry and never planned to work in the film industry. Yes, there has been some interest from Hollywood but nothing all that serious.
Now I'm in Hollywood and everyone I meet is in the film industry and NOW the questions are coming from people who seriously want to get this project going. But the question keeps coming up.
Who should play Sophie?
So now I'm turning to you for help. I really do need to know who you think should play our favorite caffeinated "it" girl. Before you say Halle Berry please keep in mind that Halle just turned 40 (although I've heard it said that she's really older). Sophie is 30 and ideally Hollywood would like her to be 25. That's not to say that you shouldn't send me the name of 30-something actresses but if they're 40-something I probably won't be able to sell it.
That said if you can think of the perfect actress who is ethnic but not necessarily Sophie's ethnicity by all means suggest her. You never know what they'll buy into.
Also, who should play Anatoly? Any ideas for Dena, Mary Ann, Marcus and Leah? What about my villains. Have any ideas for them?
Post a comment on my blog or e-mail me via MySpace and let me know!
